Course Details                                            Description

SMHFA
Scotland's Mental Health First Aid

Duration: 12 hours over 2 consecutive days (usually 9.30 - 16.30)

Delivery: Face to Face

Capacity: 16 people max.

 

 

Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid is a 2-Day course and is based on the concept of first aid training.

It teaches you how to:

  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of someone with mental health

        problems and provide initial help.

  • Deal with a crisis situation or the first signs of someone developing poor

        mental ill health.

  • Guide people towards professional supports and other help.

safeTALK
Suicide Alertness for Everyone

Duration: 1/2 day course (4 hours)

Delivery: Face to Face

Capacity: 30 people max.

safeTALK is a 3 hour course which gives participants the skills to recognise when someone may have thoughts of suicide, ask the question about suicide and to connect that person to someone with intervention skills who can continue to keep the person safe.

ASIST
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training 

Duration: 2 consecutive days
                    Day 1: 9.00 - 16.30
                    Day 2: 9.30 - 16.00

Delivery: Face to Face 

Capacity: 30 people max.

ASIST is a 2-Day course which teaches participants the skills to recognise when someone may have thoughts of suicide, how to have an open conversation around this as well as asking the suicide question and how they can work with the person to create a safe plan that will support their immediate safety. 

Nuco Training:
First Aid for Mental Health Awareness Course

Duration: 2 hours of online guided learning with self study beforehand and 1-1 assessment afterwards
(online and not the same day). 
                            or
4 hours classroom based with assessment at the end.

Delivery: Online / Face to Face

Capacity: 16 people max.

This course is suitable for everyone from age 14 as it provides learners with the knowledge to identify suspected mental health conditions as well as the skills to start a conversation and be able to signpost a person towards professional help.

Nuco Training:
First Aid for Mental Health - Level 5

Duration: 3 hours of online guided learning with self study beforehand and 1-1 assessment afterwards (online).
                           or

6 hours classroom based with assessment at the end.

Delivery: Online / Face to Face 

Capacity: 16 people max.

This course covers the content of the awareness course but also expands on the effects of drugs and alcohol, incorporates the First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan and covers ways in which a positive mental health culture can be supported within a workplace.

It also looks at a variety of mental health conditions and how the symptoms of these can be recognised.

Suitable from age 14 onwards.

Nuco Training:
First Aid for Mental Health - Level 6

Duration: 6 hours of online guided learning (usually spit into 2 sessions) with self study beforehand and 1-1 assessment afterwards (online)
                           or
12 hours classroom based with assessment at the end


Delivery: Online / Face to Face 

Capacity: 16 people max.

This 2-day course covers a wide range of mental health conditions. 

It teaches how a first aider could recognise someone in distress in a variety of situations, start a supportive conversation and encourage the person to reach out for other supports using the First id for Mental Health Action Plan.

It also covers the impact of stigma and how workplaces can become mentally healthier. 

Suitable from age 16 onwards.

Nuco Training:
First Aid for Youth Mental Health 

Duration: 3 hours

Delivery: Face to Face 

Capacity: 16 people max.

This course is designed to give participants an understanding of what can affect a young persons mental health and what to look out for to enable us to recognise this.

It covers a variety of conditions that young people are most commonly affected by and the help and support that can be offered to support the young person through this, starting with supportive conversations through to accessing more professional supports. 

Suitable from age 14 onwards.

Nuco Training:
Mini Medics Mental Health

Duration: 3 hours

Delivery: Face to Face 

Capacity: 16 people max.

This course will provide learners with a basic understanding of mental health, including what mental health means, how it is linked to physical

health, what to do if they have a worry and the various ways in which they can look after their mental health. 

This training is suitable for young people between the ages of 9-13.

Peer to Peer Training 

Duration: 2 day course delivered from 10.00 - 14.00 each day

Delivery: Face to Face 

Capacity: 12 people max.

This is delivered over two 4 hour workshops and provides the opportunity for people with lived experience to develop their knowledge and skills in supporting others others in their recovery journey.

Trauma Informed Practice

Duration: 1 day course

Delivery: Face to Face 

Capacity: 16 people max.

This 1 day course gives learners an insight into

what we mean by trauma, possible causes and

how we can work in ways that will recognise this and ensure that people who are affected receive

the best possible car and support and that

responses are safe, effective, person centred and trauma informed. 

Emergency First Aid at Work

Duration: 1 day course 

Delivery: Face to Face 

Capacity: 12 people max.

Delivered as a 1 day course, this course is ideal for employees who have been identified to act as the first aider in low risk work place environments.

The course covers all key responsibilities of a First Aider and the most common injuries and illnesses that are seen within low risk work places.
